Just like Ebo Taylor, the Ghanaian Pat Thomas is a highlife and African music legend. He’s one of these artists along with James Brown or Fela whose entire released records I need to have. Yamona was first released on his 1980 album with a brilliant production and disco arrangements, but then Pat completely re-recorded it in 2019 with his Kwashibu Area Band for his album Obiaa! This time, this version is going back to the roots, brassy and quite rougher. On neutral ground and with an electronic flair, Detroit Swindle organizes the meeting of both versions by keeping the best elements of each.

Comme Ebo Taylor, le ghanéen Pat Thomas est une légende du highlife et de la musique africaine. Comme pour James Brown ou Fela, Pat Thomas fait partie de ces artistes dont il me faut tous les disques. D’abord sorti sur son album 1980, avec production brillante et arrangements disco, Pat a complètement ré-enregistré Yamona en 2019 avec son Kwashibu Area Band pour son album Obiaa ! Cette fois, en version retour aux sources, cuivrée et largement plus ruff. En conservant le meilleur de chacune et en passant le tout dans un bain électronique, Detroit Swindle organise la rencontre des deux sur terrain neutre.
