The groove that unfolds with the first bars leaves no doubt, it’s going to sweat as soon as the singing will start. In fact not at all. The inflexible funk remains present during the whole track, ready to heighten the beat in case the synths were about to dive into a kitsch abyss. The brass instruments are raw and refuse to be polished. The mat finish suits them too well. And what about the singing? It has an unexpected soul sweetness that keeps you waiting feverishly for its reappearance. A love song discreetly laced with the highlife perfume, a wonder coming from Ghana.

Le groove qui se déploie sur les premières mesures ne fait aucun doute, ça va suer dès que le chant va entrer. Et, non. Intraitable, le funk est là sur tout le morceau, prêt à hausser le beat au cas où les synthés seraient attirés par le précipice kitch. Bruts, les cuivres refusent qu’on les lustre pour les rendre brillants, le mat leur va trop bien. Et le chant alors ? Il est d’une douceur soul à laquelle on ne s’attend pas et dont on guette fébrilement chaque réapparition. Chanson d’amour au discret parfum de highlife, une merveille venue du Ghana.
